Understand IPO Investments

What is an IPO?

An initial public offering allows investors to apply for shares when a company offers them to the public. An issue may raise fresh capital, allow existing shareholders to sell, or combine both. Read how the offer proceeds will be used.

Read the offer documents

Use the red herring prospectus or applicable offer document to review the business, financial performance, management, use of funds and risk factors. Compare the proposed valuation with listed peers and the company's prospects.

Understand applications and allotment

Check the official issue dates, price band, lot size and eligibility. Applications use approved channels such as ASBA or supported UPI mechanisms, with funds blocked as applicable. Applying does not guarantee allotment.

Listing gains are not assured

An IPO can list below its issue price and fall further afterward. Subscription figures, social-media attention and unofficial grey-market prices do not establish fair value or guarantee returns.

Prepare before applying

Keep demat, bank and KYC details ready. Verify application information and payment mandates, and track allotment through official channels. Decide whether the company fits your longer-term allocation before applying.
